During the 24/25 school year the Kindergarten and First Grade students at Riverfield Country Day School collaborated to create the Be a Superhero Be Kind Campaign with the goal of spreading kindness around the world. Through class discussions, small group collaboration, and research, students began to recognize the powerful impact they could have. Students decided that creating bracelets to distribute into the world would be a great way to spread kindness to others and they were excited about the prospect of tracking how far their bracelets traveled. Thus, the idea to create kindness bracelets and a website to hold all of our data emerged. A student committee worked together to create 6 bracelet designs with our campaign logo and surveyed staff and peers at the school to see which design people liked best. They decided to print batches of all 6 designs onto leather using the Glowforge lase engraver. Each student carefully selected their leather band and beads that would serve as reminders to spread kindness. When distributed in the community, each bracelet tasks the recipient to complete an act of kindness before passing it along, allowing kindness to ripple outward. Throughout the project, students took ownership of their learning and showed their power of collective action. They saw firsthand how their ideas could turn into something real, something that could reach beyond the classroom walls. Their passion and involvement fueled the campaign, reinforcing that even the smallest voices can create meaningful change in the world.
